Federico Valverde, the 21-year-old Uruguayan, has impressed everyone with his physical and technical abilities. The Real Madrid wonder-kid is already being considered as a big-game player and has caught the eye of many sporting giants. The Merengues, in their post-Ronaldo era, are seeking to rebuild a star-studded team using their Galactico policy and consider Fede as a vital cog in their midfield machinery. His prominent rise to the top can be seen by his massive €500M release clause. The former Club Atletico Penarol player joined Real Madrid in 2016, at the age of 18, and was loaned out to Deportivo for the 17-18 season. He debuted for the first team in 2018 under Santiago Solari. The duo had worked together before when the former was part of Real Madrid Castilla where he was nicknamed El Pajarito(A little bird). Valverde came into limelight in the 2019-20 season under Zinedine Zidane. He has managed to impress the Frenchman and cement his place in the first team. Federico Valverde is a box-to-box midfielder who is involved in both the attacking and defensive phases of play. The Uruguayan’s biggest asset is his dribbling ability which allows him to find pockets of space to run into. Currently, Real Madrid doesn’t have a midfielder with Valverde’s skill set and this makes him a very useful asset. Another important feature of his game is that he tends to build play from a deeper position before making a run and exchanging passes in the final third. Along with that, the Uruguayan possesses a great deal of physical strength. With immense stamina and speed, we often find him making crucial tackles and interceptions. Players like Paul Pogba or Toni Kroos, who are more creative and ball oriented, tend to create regular chances but are weaker defensively. On the other hand, players like N’Golo Kante and Casemiro contribute heavily in defense are not very efficient in the final third. Valverde covers both of those aspects and has brilliant shooting abilities as well. This is what makes him so special. Valverde’s skill set brings about a different dynamic to the Real Madrid squad, which has resulted in a change in the style of play since Ronaldo’s departure. With Los Blancos planning to refresh the squad by bringing in young talent, Valverde can become a leader in the squad. As Real Madrid looks to conquer Europe again, Valverde will play an important part in bringing the glory back to Santiago Bernabeu.
