The Sporting Director of Lyon has given an update on three of their biggest stars. Lyon sporting director, Juninho, has admitted that Houssem Aouar and Moussa Dembele could leave the club this summer. However, he added that he hopes that Memphis Depay can be persuaded to sign a new contract.

Lyon missed out on Champions League football after their seventh-placed finish in the controversially cancelled Ligue 1 season. This has acted as a massive blow to their prospects and it will be difficult for them to keep hold of their stars next season.

Moussa Dembele has been constantly linked to Manchester United since January. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was looking to sign Erling Haaland in the winter transfer window but the Norwegian prodigy decided to move to Dortmund. United started searching for a short-term option and ended up signing Odion Ighalo on a six-month loan deal which has been extended for further six months. While Solksjaer seems to be satisfied with Ighalo’s performances, it is obvious that United will look for a young centre forward this summer.

Aouar and Dembele could leave Lyon

The Telegraph report that Dembele is keen on a transfer and will push the process as soon as the transfer window opens. Lyon’s evaluation of Dembele exceeds £50million, but that value will definitely go down as the world suffers an economic crisis due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Another interesting aspect of this transfer is that Celtic will earn a sell-on fee whenever Dembele transfers to a new club. This is because of a clause that the Premiership champions into the Frenchman’s contract.

According to several reports, Lyon are ready to cash in on Houssem Aouar this summer and they want around £50million for their playmaker. RMC Sport claims that Liverpool are “very interested” in signing the 21-year-old. However, the report also states that Liverpool have not made any formal offer and they are yet to make direct contact. Chelsea and Manchester City were reportedly interested in Aouar. But Chelsea have made a marquee signing in form of Hakim Ziyech and are apparently close to signing Timo Werner. Moreover, Manchester City face an uncertain future in the Champions League due to their two-season ban.

The sporting director has admitted that Lyon will look for alternatives if their stars leave this summer. He said:

“If we lose a player of that level, we’ll look for replacements of the same standard.”
